Located on the Tiburon Peninsula, tiny Belvedere is made up of two small tidal islands and a newer sea-level neighborhood where virtually every home opens on to a man-made lagoon.

Belvedere and Corinthian Islands were once accessible by road only at low tide.  In the late 19th century both became popular summering spots for the wealthy of nearby San Francisco, and the many of the elegant summer “cottages” built at that time can still be seen today.  Virtually every home on both islands takes in wonderful views of San Francisco, Angel Island, the Golden Gate Bridge, Richardson Bay, or Mt. Tamalpais.

The lagoon area was developed in the late 50’s and features high-end mid-century design on large lots, most on the lagoon.   Homes here have often been extensively updated for discriminating contemporary tastes but are still built predominantly around waterfront living.

The home of two yacht clubs, Belvedere has a very small shopping area but shares a downtown with larger Tiburon.  Main Street Tiburon features elegant restaurants and shops and is a popular tourist destination via ferry from San Francisco.  Belvedere shares a school district with Tiburon, and both towns are part of the Tamalpais Union High School District.
